Lucy Dougan visited the University of Canberra in 2010 and presented a seminar to students and staff about her creative practice as a poet. Following are selected excerpts from the seminar, which took place on 4 November 2010.

Lucy Dougan’s poetry collections are Memory shell (Five Islands Press, 1998); The forest waits: an anthology of poems (with Andrew Taylor and Kevin Gillam;Southern Forest Arts, 2006); White clay (Giramondo, 2008); and Meanderthals (Web Del Sol World Voices Chapbooks, 2011). Her PhD was awarded in late 2009 and undertaken within the School of Social and Cultural Studies at the University of Western Australia. She currently works for the Westerly Centre at the University of Western Australia.
Paul Hetherington is Associate Professor of Writing at the University of Canberra and Chair of the Writing Research Cluster in the Faculty of Arts and Design. He edited the final three volumes of the National Library of Australia’s four-volume edition of the diaries of the artist Donald Friend and is the author of eight published collections of poetry.
